Ronnie Alan Schmidt, 49, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at the Meritus Medical Center.

He was born June 21, 1973 in Hagerstown, MD.  He was the son of the late William Edgar Schmidt and the late Bonnie Jean (Jones) Schmidt.

Ron was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School class of 1992, where he was honored by the National Honor Society. He later attended Hagerstown Community College, earning his RN. He furthered his education and was granted a bachelors degree in nursing from Shenandoah University, where he was a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Ron currently was employed as a Registered Nurse with Meritus Urgent Care.

He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Beth Ann (Conaway) Schmidt. Also his sister, Bernice Schmidt of Hagerstown MD; brother Bryan Schmidt (wife Becky) of Springfield, WV; and twin brother, Rodney Schmidt (wife Anne) of Hagerstown, MD and so many loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ron was known for his wit , his contagious laugh and kind heart.  And all that knew him, including his patients, knew he took great pride in helping others. And in turn, made it his life’s mission by becoming a nurse. He always found the best in people and there was no end in what he gave to others.
Ron had an extreme love of animals, big and small.  He could often be found doting on his precious fur babies or showing off pictures of them.  He loved music, playing the guitar, attending concerts and woodworking. And followed his favorite baseball team, the Washington Nationals.  He also had an extreme thirst for learning.  And at the time of his passing, Ron was pursuing a Master’s Degree, with his ultimate goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.

Family and friends are invited to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, to begin a celebration of Ron's life Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

The celebration will continue at the funeral home Friday, November 18, 2022, at 11:00 am with a period of remembrance. A service will be officiated by Pastor Mark Reno immediately following.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Washington County. 13011 Maugansville Rd. Hagerstown, MD 21740

Prayer and thoughts with the family and my deepest condolences. Ron was a great man with a wonderful personality that would resonate with anyone. I often reminisce about our time at Urgent care with great fondness and camaraderie. Ron will always continue to live in our hearts with the humble ways he has touched our lives. Beth and Family, Ron was simply the most kindest most gentle soul ever! I have had pleasure of working with him the last 6 years. He was a fantastic nurse but also just a genuinely good human. He loved his job and his urgent care family. He truly cared about us and our families. Always up for pics of our kids/grandkids. Ron always listened and was willing to give great advice. I cheered him on while he was going back to school and he’s been cheering me on. Ron you will truly be missed. Rest easy my friend.

I did not know Ron personally, but I brought my mom to urgent care, and he was the nurse who took care of her, and she said he was so nice, and she could tell that he was a hard worker Not everyone in health care is nice and respectful so he stood out and you can be proud of this young man and the lives he touched please know the family is in our thoughts and prayers that God gives you the strength during this time

Ron was an amazing personality with about the purest heart of anyone I've ever known. I was blessed to have worked with Ron and regret I didn't get to spend more time with him after we both left the ER. May your friends and family find the peace and comfort knowing that all of us that were blessed by your presence lived a better life because of you Ron. Rest in peace brother.

I don't have the words. Ronnie was one of the best people you could ever know. He cared about everyone, and that would show through in his work as an RN. I would see him a few times a year, and it always brightened my day. Rest easy, sir. You will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Ronnie's entire family and friends. I worked with Ronnie for Rural/Metro Ambulance in the late 1990's. Ronnie always treated me with respect. He was great to work with and he always had my back. May he rest in peace.

Sweet Beth and family ❤️ Ronnie blessed every room he walked into with his smile and a laugh you hear even when You're apart. Ronnie was incredibly empathetic to the people he loved and cared for, I’ve never known someone with such a warm embrace! He was so thoughtful and imaginative and he provoked so much emotion in everyone he spoke to. He worked hard and he knew how to thin the air when it felt thicker from the chaos! He was more than incredible! I can’t wait to one day see him making all the angels laugh with his humor and the laugh that made anyone light up! Heaven gained another angel and the sun and moon will shine brighter with him there ❤️ He will be missed but never forgotten!

Another tragic loss to someone who gave so much! Ronnie and Rodney were a fixture my senior year at South High. Running into him in the ER and Urgent Care either as a patient or if I was there on the Ambulance he was always there to help. Another life lost too soon!

Beth and Family, I’m sending my deepest condolences to you all. Ronnie Ron was one of the greatest people I’ve ever met, he was full of so much joy & laughter. He was my favorite person to work with as he always put a smile on my face & always answered my crazy questions. Beth and Family, I am so very sorry, and devastated for the loss of Ron. I will cherish the memories of our deep talks on ways to care for patients when working at the urgent care. Ron was always around for an ear to listen, and encouragement to keep going. I will miss his infectious laugh when everyone would carry on together. He will be missed by so many. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. Many prayers of comfort.
