Obituary

Kathy Lynn Howell was born on May 23, 1963 in Hagerstown, Maryland to her loving parents Ronald and Carol Price.  She quietly passed on June 9, 2022 after a 6 month battle with cancer.  She attended South Hagerstown High School graduating in 1981.  After high school, she attended Cosmetology School in Martinsburg, West Virginia.  She worked as a successful hair stylist at Sagittarius, Pure Pizzazz and Ace of Blades for approximately 14 years until 1996.  Her love of animals guided her to continue her education at Hagerstown Junior College (HCC) and Wilson College, where she received an Associates Degree in Veterinarian Technology.  She worked for approximately 10 years at Wayne Heights Animal Hospital in Waynesboro PA.  A few years after the birth of her wonderful son Garrison in 2003, she decided to take a leave from work to raise a child. After Garrison was established in school, she transitioned to working as an assistant for her mom's Property Management and Real Estate company.  Finally, in 2018 she retired to enjoy her family and friends full time.  She approached each one of her careers with the same energy, commitment, love and care.  To her last days, friendships she developed throughout her entire life remained strong and real.  Kathy Howell was the best wife, mother, friend, and sister any family could ask for.  She always had time to sit, talk and listen.  For those who knew her, she could really talk.

Kathy married Joe Howell in 1984 in Hagerstown, Maryland where they resided until her death.  She loved to explore, hike, and travel throughout the U.S. and United Kingdom.  Many back packing and road trips were taken to West Virgina and New England.  She had very fond memories of backpacking through England and Scotland. She loved to cook and tried all sorts of ethnic food recipes, and was especially fond of Afghan food and Pizza.  Dogs were her first love, and she had a dog throughout her life.  Her dog Cooper was her best friend and companion.  She will be greatly missed by all she came in contact with.

Kathy is survived by her mother, Carol Price; son, Garrison Howell; husband, Joseph Howell; and brother, Craig Price.  Her father, Ronald Price, passed in 2021.

There will be no funeral service. The family is planning a Kathy Howell Life Celebration Gathering.  In lieu of any flowers or gifts, please donate to Hospice of Washington County.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.

Sweetest Kathy, I feel so grateful to have been a part of our Mary Ann’s Garden group and grown with you there. Your compassion and zest for life and your family will never be forgotten. You added the sunshine to our group that helped our gardeners grow with each get together. As time passes since your physical body left us, my thoughts still go to you and your family. We all know you are still with us in our hearts. Rest well my sweet friend. We are blessed to have known you. Forever grateful.

Words cannot begin to express the shock and sadness of hearing of Kathy's illness and passing. I worked with Kathy at Wayne Heights Animal Hospital and I have never known a kinder and more wonderful person. She was admired and loved by everyone I know that was ever in her presence. She was smart, talented, and put her all into everything I ever knew she was involved in. I envied her passion for living life to the fullest every day, whether it be cooking, hiking or just spending time with her family and friends. My heart goes out to Joe, Garrison, Carol, Craig and all her close friends that she spoke so often about. May they find peace in knowing that she lived a wonderful life and brought so much happiness to so many people. Heaven gained a beautiful angel and I know in my heart she will always be with her family and friends in spirit and the beautiful light she cast on so many people will always be shining. Rest in peace, Kathy, you will be sadly missed and never forgotten. ❤

As a classmate of Kathy’s (and Joe’s), Kathy will always be remembered as a real friend, a great person, full of life and love. Kathy was very genuine, very real! She treated everyone the same, with respect, compassion and courtesy. Kathy was always a class act, someone many could learn a lot from! It’s so sad, that a wonderful life, a wonderful person was taken way too soon!! My heart goes out to Joe and the Family!! As a widower I know the pain you are going through!! Prayers to all!!

My deepest sympathy and condolences goes out to Carol, Joe, Garrison and Craig. I too first met Kathy in Golden majorettes. We had fun times and our friendship later in life was through Penny and Shane. There was never a time she didn’t have a smile on her face and a hug for me every time she saw me. She would say, “Hang in there girl.” She will be greatly missed. Fly high Kathy. ❤️ Krista Myers

Kathy was a very dear friend who i have known since her days at Sag! She took incredible care of me and my hair for so many years. We corresponded during the holidays and at special times in each others lives. Even though we didn’t see each other, our bond was strong. I will miss seeing her great FB posts as i have watched Garrison grow to a fine young man. I am grateful to have know her and will pray that she now rests in God’s arms in heaven. Love to Joe, Garrison and Carol and all her family. Her dear friend, Kathleen Perini

I always struggle to find the right words to write in these situations. Although I really didn't know Kathy, I feel certain that we met and talked when she worked for her mother and was handling my HOA and rental. It appears that she enjoyed a fulfilling life while she was with us. My condolences to her mom Carol, her husband, son and brother. I pray that you find the strength to find your way through this very dark path to Peace.
