Retired United States Air Force T/Sgt. John W. Harne, Sr. 84 of Hagerstown, MD went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 12, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 27,1936 in Foxville, MD he was the son of the late Lee G. and Ruth L. (Willard) Harne.
John retired from the United States Air Force in 1974. he served in Viet Nam in 1972. After John retired from the U.S.A.F. he worked for the City of Hagerstown Water Dept. as Manager of the Edgemont Water Shed retiring in 2002.
John was a member of the Virginia Avenue Church of God in Hagerstown, MD, where he was active in the choir. He was in the Easter drama's and served as usher and security guard. While stationed in Bangor, Maine John was active at Bangor Assemblies of God starting a bus ministry and working with the Royal Rangers and teaching Sunday School. John was a former member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God, where he was Superintendent and taught Sunday School.
John is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley Ann (Fritz) Harne, one son John W. Harne, Jr. of Inverness, Florida, three daughters, Barbara S. Black, Priscilla R. Stout and husband Douglas both of Hagerstown, MD and Michele A. Rinehart and husband John of Smithsburg, MD, three sisters Helen Dagenhart of Chambersburg, PA, Nancy Sell of Frederick, MD and Deborah Cadle of Springfield, VA. three brothers, Donald Harne of Williamsport, MD, Rev. Paul Harne of Hagerstown, MD and Howard Harne of Ringgold, MD, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by one brother, Rev. Eugene Harne of Hagerstown, MD.
Services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Virginia Avenue Church of God 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD with the Rev. A. Paul Harne and Rev. Shawn Bushman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Due to COVID restrictions the family is requesting that family and friends limit there time at the funeral home to allow everyone an opportunity to greet the immediate family.
Interment will be at the Welty Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Greensburg, MD.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Virginia Avenue Church of God 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740 or Hospice of Washington County 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
