Obituary

Dorothy Mabel Zinkand, 100, formerly of Hagerstown, passed away, October 15, 2022, at Caraway Manor, Elkton, Maryland.
 
Born Sunday, December 4, 1921, in Revere, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harry Childs Newey and Ethel Ada (Collier) Newey.
 
She was a graduate of Hagerstown High School and Hagerstown Business College. She worked for the US Public Health Service, then was a stay-at-home mom, and later was an Assistant Manager at the Washington County Teachers Federal Credit Union.
 
Dot was a member of Haven Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was actively involved in the ministries of the church.
 
Dot volunteered at Western Maryland Hospital Center for many years, visiting patients and teaching some to read. She was devoted to her home and family and known for her kind and peaceable nature.
 
She is survived by her son, William C. Zinkand (Dory), grandson Benjamin J. Zinkand (Emily), great-grandsons Jack A. Zinkand and Emerson D. Zinkand, and several nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Marshall William “Jack” Zinkand, infant sister Phyllis G. Newey, sister Ethel Wilma Morris, brother John P. Newey, foster brother Norman T. Newey, and infant grandson Andrew W. Zinkand.
 
Services will be held November 3, 2022, at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Linda M. Alessandri officiating. Visiting hours will begin at 10:00 am, and a memorial service at 11:00 am. An inurnment ceremony will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haven Lutheran Church.
