Obituary

Dolores (Dee) Joan Myers Smith, age 88, of Hagerstown, Maryland died Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Holly Place Senior Living.

Born June 22, 1932 in Tilghmanton, MD she was the daughter of the late Russell S. and Jane (Dellinger) Myers; and the widow of Jay W. Smith whom she married on February 11, 1951.

She was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was a member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Lappans for more than 60 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked as the League Coordinator at Turner’s Dual Lanes for more than 40 years.  She was a longtime Junior League Coach, League Secretary/Treasurer for the Richard Pentz Tenpin League, and she started the Soda Pop Adult/Youth League all at Turner’s Dual Lanes.  She was ‘everybody’s mom’ and loved promoting the sport of bowling. 

She is survived by one son; Todd C. Smith and wife Michelle Talbert-Smith of Hagerstown;  daughter-in-law Gisele L. Smith of Fairplay, MD; grandson Jason W. Smith and wife Shana of Williamsport, MD, granddaughters Jessica Wolfgang and husband Jason of Greencastle, PA and Jenell W. Smith of Fairplay, MD; great grandchildren Alexis Fraley, Hayden Cummings, Caleb Smith, and Mayci Wolfgang.  She is survived by her brother Dr. John W. Myers of San Antonio, TX.  She is survived by David W. Curry, whom she raised as her son, and his family.  She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many life-long friends, the staff and residents of Holly Place.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Jay W. Smith, her son Shelton W. Smith, her sister Sandra Semler, her brother H. Lane Myers, and her grandson Travis Curry.  

Sis to her family, Dee to her friends and bowlers; she had a kind heart, a compassionate spirit, and cared deeply for those she loved.   

The family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, Monday May 10, 2021 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Graveside service will be Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 11:00 am, at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD with Rev. Anne Weatherholt officiating.

Dee requested the omission of flowers, however, if one is so inclined to send flowers, let it be just one red rose, her favorite.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Rd., Boonsboro, MD 21713 or Holly Place Senior Living 268 S. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, MD 21742.  They provided her great care and love for more than two years.

Todd and Michelle I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember her when she would give me big hugs at the bowling alley and always asked if I have been good and if I was taking good care of my mom (Brenda) She was such a sweetheart and I loved her dearly.
