Obituary

Dennis G. Zerance, beloved husband and father, died Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Meritus Medical Center from complications of rheumatoid arthritis. He was 72 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Anne Zerance of Steelton, PA.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Katherine D. Zerance; a son, Stephen Daniel Zerance of Baltimore, MD; a daughter, Lindsay Katherine Hood and son-in-law, Thomas Hood; two grandsons, Theodore and Hunter Hood all of Hagerstown; and four nephews and one niece.

Dennis was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. For his service and combat actions, he received a Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

After returning from the war he was employed by the H. B. McClure Co. and Herre Brothers, both of Harrisburg, PA. Ward-Boland Associates Inc. of Baltimore, MD, hired Dennis in the late 1980's to be the manager of their Western Maryland office, where he designed and estimated commercial HVAC systems until his retirement in 2015.

We will all miss Dennis's fun loving spirit. He loved football games at Notre Dame with family and friends, as well as trips with all his golf buddies. Dennis loved to garden, baby sit his grandsons, and walk his dogs Emma and Pippa.

Most of all, we will all miss his giant personality, warm presence in the room, and the love he felt for his family and friends.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.

Katherine and family, My husband and I want to express our deep condolences at Dennis' passing. Denny and I both grew up on Cottage Hill and were friends for a very long time. My husband coached him in CYO basketball many years ago. Denny not only was always a lot of fun, but he was funny as well. I remember at our 50th class reunion laughing with him about old times. Treasure your precious memories of him. Sincerely, Pam & Bob LaVia

My first memory of Denny is the first time he saw Kate, and he asked, “who is the beautiful blonde?” So many great memories..,Denny sitting on the beach trying to add highlights to his hair, and his hair turned orange. Denny always kept the family get togethers rolling with his hilarious observations. No one was more loyal, particularly to his family. He will be much missed.

I am very saddened to hear of Dennis' passing. I had the pleasure of working with Dennis through his visits to me at Wright Gardner Insurance for several years. What a delight he was! We would get the job done but spend most of our time laughing. I will certainly miss seeing him. May you all find comfort and peace in God's loving arms.

Barb and I were saddened to learn of the passing Dennis Zerance. We got to know Kate and Dennis through Little League. Dennis and Kate’s son Stephen and our son David played T-Ball, Minor League, and Little League together for many years. I especially got to know Dennis when I managed T-ball and minor league teams with Dennis always present as a coach. Dennis loved baseball. He was such a warm, caring, and enthusiastic person. I truly felt the friendship shared in LL carried on throughout our lives. Barb and I would see Dennis many places and it was always like we picked up where we were, always asking about the each of our children and what they were into and doing. He will be missed. Thankfully, Dennis lives on in all our memories. We give the family our hugs and prayers.

Please accept my sincerest sympathy on the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. Dennis and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Steelton. He was such a nice boy. Back in the 1990's I was bringing my son to baseball practice at Federal Little League. A tall man approached me and said my name. I couldn't believe that it was Dennis and that he recognized me. The nice boy grew up to be a nice, friendly man.
