Connie Lou Souders, 80, of Keedysville, MD, passed away, Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the Meritus Medical Center.

Born Friday, September 26, 1941 in Sharpsburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Rueben McKinley Eaton and the late Hazel Mae (Thomas) Eaton.

She attended Boonsboro High School. She was a faithful military wife. She was a donut hole plucker at H.L. Mills Bakery and retired from Turner's Dual Lanes where she was widely known for her potato soup. Connie was the poet laureate, official bag lady, and Container Procurement Officer at Roostervane Gardens, where she also comforted families that suffered a loss. She enjoyed treasure hunting at the local thrift stores. She wrote and memorized 43 poems sharing them with her community. Connie was an avid and lucky Bingo player at the Boonsboro Legion. She loved admiring and feeding birds and the shop cat Flannel. She was a very faithful caregiver to many people especially her husband Howard and daughter Shawen. Connie was an important influence to her grandson Matthew who had a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughter, Shawen (Denny) Warrenfeltz of Keedysville, MD; daughter-in-law, Chris Souders; step daughter, Fidella (Jimmy) Starr; grandson, Matthew (Natalie) Souders; three granddaughters, McKinsey (Jerrett) McCormick, Jenny Souders, Karen Souders; step grandsons, Jason and Josh Starr and their families; two great-granddaughters, Lydia Souders, Elaina Souders; three great-grandsons, Vincent Souders, Manse McCormick, Kinnon McCormick; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard John Souders, son, Howard Souders, grandchildren, Reuben,Chloe, Elizabeth and Carly,  sisters, Margaret Poffenberger, Geraldine Keller, Madeline Bikle, Joan Keller, Betty Turner, and Catherine Cousins, brothers, Russell Keller, and Johnny Zepp.

Services will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 3:00 pm, at the Beaver Creek Christian Church, 9711 Beaver Creek Church Rd., Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Rachel E. Black and Rev. Mark Curran officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, Wednesday, June 15, 2022, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. 

The family is requesting everyone in attendance to dress casual and wear a mask.

Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Keedysville, MD.

I was so sorry to read in the newspaper of Connie's death.It has been so long since I seen her.She was one of the sweetest ladies ever and will be missed by many.She had a heart of gold! I am sorry that I am unable to be there but you will be in my heart and prayers.God bless you all!

Dear Shawn I'm am so sorry to hear of your mom's passing she will be missed and all of the poems she could just let flow from her heart I know her and my mom are in heaven dancing up a storm as I write this.
