Clifton Luther Smith II, 82, of Williamsport, MD, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Doey's House in Hagerstown, MD.

Born May 20, 1940, in Sharpsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Clifton Luther Smith and the late Mary Virginia Cox Smith.

He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1958, University of Maryland in 1962 with a BA in Education, and Johns Hopkins University in 1968 with a Masters in Education.  He was employed with Harford County Public Schools as a teacher for three years then as a Pupil Personnel Worker for twenty-seven years retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren and Ruritan Club in Keedysville, and a former member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and Long Green Valley Church of the Brethren, where he served as treasurer.  He was a volunteer with Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center, where he was treasurer, Washington County Free Library, and Fahrney Keedy Senior Living Community, where he was librarian.  He enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and golfing, and loved playing cards and dominoes with family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Michael Smith and wife Cindy, son, Mark Smith and wife Susan, grandchildren, Lauren Thomas and husband Patrick, Craig Smith, Benjamin Smith and wife Alisa, Matthew Smith, Mary Grace Fair and husband Fletcher, Anna Smith, Elizabeth Smith, and Eli Smith, great-grandchildren, Shaun Thomas, Claire Thomas, and Holly Smith, and cousin, Joseph Cox and wife Regina.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 3pm, at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, MD, with Rev. Randy Buchman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shepherd's Spring Outdoor Ministry Center 16869 Taylors Landing Road, Sharpsburg, MD 21782 or to Doey's House c/o Hospice of Washington County 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
