Obituaries & Guest Book

Christopher Scott Straley

Christopher Scott Straley, 39, of Martinsburg, WV, died Monday, November 14 from injuries received in an auto accident Thursday, November 10.
Chris gave the ultimate sacrifice and final gift of his love by donating his heart, liver and kidneys so that others could live.

Our son was an avid thrill-seeking adventurist. He loved to hike, climb, camp, snowboard, motorcycle stunts, but favored the water and beach.
Chris' truest of loves was his beloved daughter, Jane Rilynn. Jane was air to his lungs and he loved her beyond his words, beyond his tears, beyond his heart, beyond his life.

As one friend said: Chris was raw life and uncut adrenaline - full service whether you were ready or not. He hoped and loved with size bigger than life.
Many of his closest friends refer to him as "brother" and one said that the world will shine a little dimmer because he was the spark that kept everyone else alive. He was the adventure everyone wanted, and the friend they were lucky to have.
Chris' life was cut with his own pattern.... self-made, unique and one-of-a-kind. No one could take credit for who he was. Only Chris. His motto in life was "Stay Real" and that "You'll never forget me." We won't!

He was a talented self-taught welder and created and made some of the most exquisite gifts for his family and friends. It was his dream and desire to have his own weld shop to put those creative juices to work.

Chris graduated in 2001 from Greencastle-Antrim High School.

He is survived by his beautiful daughter, Jane Rilynn Straley of Virginia; parents, Michael & Robin Straley of Greencastle, PA; paternal grandparents, Richard & Mary Straley of Greencastle, PA; three beloved Caine Corso dogs - Maximus, Lucy & Kiaus; uncle Craig Higgins and wife Rhonda & family of Big Pool, MD. Chris was preceded in death by his sister, Leah Renee Straley and his maternal grandparents, Leister and Jane Higgins.

A private celebration of life gathering is being planned for Chris' immediate family and closest friends.

A memorial donation GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for Chris' 7-year-old daughter, Jane Rilynn. Please click on this link to give in memory of her Daddy. or send check or money order payable to Robin Straley, 10631 Grant Shook Rd., Greencastle, PA 17225.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.

Whatever you were called home for must have been extra important. You were a bright and adventuresome soul and Im proud to call you family♡ when I first got diagnosed with cancer you told me not to worry, bc If anyone could beat it, I would. And you werent wrong. The fights not over yet, its closer than it ever was before. My only regret is we didnt get to take that adventure we had been planning. Losing you so soon after my sister and my pap hits hard. Knowing exactly the pain little Jane and your family are feeling is excruciating. You are irreplaceable my friend. You were uniquely wild and so full of love for everyone in your life. You touched us all in such big ways. I miss you. So much. May your soul rest in peace and freedom from pain and always know that we will keep your memory alive in all of our hearts till our last days, you will always be with us. Never forgotten. Ever. I love you brother!♡ Life just wont be the same without you in it.

I was so very sad to hear of Chris passing. I will share two things. The numerous times we went to pray at the altar together at church knowing he needed a hand, and the few trips we took to ice skate together. I had no idea what I was doing but he was determined to teach me. Many fond memories that I will cherish forever. I love the family and will keep them in my prayers.

Chris was a great friend always was a happy good lucky man with the spunk and go get it attitude that everyone long for. We had a lot of fun times in school laughing and making jokes in class and giving a little bit of a hard time to the teacher. All them fun times we had riding bikes and going to Mike's bike shop in greencastle. He will be loved and messed, Haven has gained a loving father and friend this day .
