Obituary

Aiden Matthew Alexander, 15, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Monday, April 19, 2021.

Born Wednesday, June 22, 2005 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of Matthew James Alexander and Sara Beth (Walz) Alexander.

Aiden was currently a sophomore at Smithsburg High School, where he was an honor roll student as well as a member of the soccer and track teams. In addition to his academic and athletic success, Aiden was employed at Chick-fil-a. He was an avid video gamer and loved spending time with his friends. Aiden was a jokester, always smiling and making others laugh. He could light up any room with his bright smile and dimpled cheeks. He loved fiercely and was a great friend. He idolized his big brother his entire life and often followed in his footsteps. Aiden loved nothing more than playing soccer and being on the pitch with his teammates. He was just learning to soar through the air as a first year pole vaulter. He loved all things maize and blue as he was a huge University of Michigan fan and always talked about seeing a game in the Big House. Aiden loved his pets dearly and had a special affinity for his cat Rue as she was often found either sleeping on his pillow or hanging over his shoulder as he ran through the house. He loved entertaining younger kids by chasing them around, putting together legos, jumping on the trampoline, or simply sitting on the couch and watching movies. Every night, before bed, he made sure to tell his family he loved them as they were his biggest supporters and the foundation of his ability to love so deeply.

In addition to his parents, he is also survived by his brother, Tyler Matthew Alexander; maternal grandparents, Patsy and George Mohr; paternal grandmother, Kathy Alexander; paternal grandfather, Rodney Alexander; uncles, Eric Walz and wife Julie and Kevin Mohr; aunts, Jennifer Shoenhair and husband Matt, Anna Martiny and husband Brad, Shari Braun and husband Bill and Angela Friedrich; cousins, Jessica, Hannah, Josh Mohr and wife Marisssa, Angie Goodloe and husband Marshawn, Reannah, Collin, Madelynn, Harper, Hadlee, Hyatt, Brody, Alivia, Marquis Jr., Wyatt and Willow; extended family Mark Sr., Melissa, Alicia, Mark Jr., And Lily Proctor and Mark, Danielle, Dominic, Vinny, and Nicolas Roncone; along with his numerous other friends.

Memorial services will be held Friday, April 23, 2021, at 11:30 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Richard Daughtridge officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Aiden was a great friend. I knew him since middle school but I was closer to him freshman year of high school when we had percussion and lunch together. He was always making jokes and making people laugh. He will be missed.

Sara, Words will never be able to express how my heart feels for your family during this time. However, the words your family spoke today about Aiden were beautiful and once again showed how fiercely you love each other. Know that your circle of family and friends is ready for whatever you may need. I've lit a candle at our church to echo how brightly Aiden's spirit continues to shine upon all those who knew him personally and through you and your words today and every day forward. As you said, "Words matter" and my wish is that ours may spread a little more kindness, happiness, and laughter in memory of Aiden.

Aiden was such a beautiful soul and always will be. We used to be close in middle school but we slowly drifted. He always lighten up any room that he walked in. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Aiden but my son Caden worked with him at Chick-fil-A. I know that he and Tyler are both very special to Caden. It is evident by hearing about and reading about Aiden what a truly wonderful soul he was. My heart aches for his family and his friends and I pray that all who are missing Aiden are comforted as they grieve. His life, though too short, obviously impacted so many others positively and brought joy, friendship, love, and humor to everyone around him. Rest In Peace, Aiden. Thank you for being a brilliant light in this world while you were in it. God’s peace, Tara Conrad

Aiden was always so nice to everyone I wasn’t to close to him in school because I just meant him like this year but I could tell he was a super nice guy who could make you feel better in a second and I hope everyone can get ok cause we are in this together lots of love to like family ❤️

I worked at Chick Fil A with Aiden, and I have countless memories I will always cherish with him. He and I would spend hours each Saturday making each other laugh as our screen got busier and busier, and we always got through it with smiles all around, mainly in part to his ability to bring happiness to absolutely everyone in a room. My last memory with Aiden brings a smile to my face, which I feel is truly fitting for the times I spent with him. I will forever cherish the time I spent with you Aiden, and never will I forget you, Rest In Peace my forever friend.

I didn’t know Aiden personally, but his brother, Tyler, is my best friend. I knew Aiden was an amazing person, with such a full heart, and so much love to give by how Tyler would talk about him. He often joined our calls as well, and would just laugh about anything that was going on, and he would continue to make us laugh with him. It seemed like he had that affect on everyone he came in contact with. My sincerest condolences to your family during this hard time. God bless your family, you will be in all of our prayers.

I became friends with Aiden around 7th grade. We had our ups and downs but we got through it. He was always nice to me and would tease me from time to time. We had so much fun together in middle school. I didn’t get to see him as much in highschool. When we did see each other we would just smile and laugh and say hey. I’m going to miss you a lot Aiden just know that you are loved.

When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of a storm There's a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark Walk on through the wind Walk on through the rain Though your dreams be tossed and blown Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone RIP Aiden Thank you for the times spent, the laughs had and the memories made. Our hearts are truly broken for your family. May you find peace during this unbelievable difficult time. Although we do not always understand why things happen, and may never know, God has his plan and needed a special Angel to carry it out. A plan only your precious Son could handle for him. I know it may not comfort you right now but may offer you something to hang on to when you just don't understand why things go the way they do. May your memories continue to give you comfort. We pray for you and want you to know you are not alone.

To the Alexander family, Your beloved Aiden has been in our thoughts along with all of you every single day. We met Aiden last year, he had lunch here at our home with our daughter and other friends. He was an absolutely lovely young man, and had such an adorable sweetness about him. His precious heart shines through his beautiful smile-in each and every picture we see of him. You are a lovely family, and there is no doubt that Aiden deeply knew and felt your love for him every single day of his life. Be eternally proud of this young man, he was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. Psalm 34:18 declares it: The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Aiden is in paradise with the Lord. All our love and prayers The Ward Family

We join in with the rest of those who knew Aiden, and are at loss for adequate words. The girls and I are among those who were privileged to personally know Aiden.  We lived next door for 10+ years.  Our "Woodbridge Memories'' will forever be ingrained as will be the amazing photos and videos that captured these kids growing up together. Our year long morning visits and trips to school each day while Matt was deployed was our favorite.  To Sara, Matt and Tyler- you raised a remarkable young man!

After reading every entry in this guest book, it is very clear that Aiden made the same wonderful impression on me as he did for everyone else. Aiden was nothing short of a joy to be around. When I first starting coaching track at Smithsburg, Aiden's outgoing and joyful personality made it a much easier transistion. He was a vocal leader, and a goof ball all at the same time. Needless to say, I looked forward to seeing him at practice everyday. He just made practice better for everyone he was around. When he was missing, it was clearly noticeable. Whether it was joking with his teammates, laughing off a tough workout or curiously asking how he could get better. Aiden was the type of student-athlete and person you want to be part of your program. I know I could count on him to give it his all and to do what he was supposed to be doing. I think he asked me "How can I get better" more than any other athlete in our program. Aiden was a great teammate, friend and young man. We are all better for having known Aiden. Myself and the entire track program will miss him dearly. I am so sorry for your loss. I can promise you there are thirty kids running around the Smithsburg High School that will remember him fondly.

The last time I saw this young man was at his Aunt Angie's family celebration. After the event we adults were cleaning and I got to be the one to chase Aiden and Tyler around the basement with the vacuum cleaner while they laughed, ran, squealed, climbed/jumped, hid and challenged me to get them. Such a treasure to have had that. Condolences to you all.

From about the end of 6th grade up until the end of our freshmen year, Aiden was my best friend. We were always in the same math class as one another. We enjoyed working together and sitting in class. Our freshmen year, we had Spanish together. Any chance we’d get, we would work together. During lunch time, for the past 2 years, I always sat with him. Aiden was always cracking jokes, and being the life of the party. I also had the privilege of being in marching band and drum-line with him. As we were two of the freshmen who got to March cymbals on the field. I remember all the hard work we put in, and how we always would count our rhythms together. Aiden was a one-of-kind friend. I had the pleasure of being someone he could talk to. We were able to relate to each other, and he was able to tell me just about everything. Up until about March of 2020, he was my best friend. When I found out he passed away, my heart immediately began to break. To know that such a special and sweet, and funny guy, my best friend, was gone. Aiden loved largely and cared deeply. In times when others were mean to him, he knew I was there. And in times where others were mean to me, he was there. He never cared what people might have said. He just was him. He put his all into his soccer, and schoolwork, and band. Aiden, I’m gonna miss you so much, you were such an incredible, and life-changing friend. One last moment I’d like to recall was summer of 2019. I had just returned from vacation. And since our birthdays are 5 days apart, I got him a gift. It was a bracelet. One with black, wooden beads, and a center brown wooden plank that says “protect” with two turtles. And I got a second one for myself. It was out friendship bracelet. Although confused at first, once he understood, I saw him wear that bracelet most everyday, as I did the same. And to Aiden’s family, I am so sorry for the loss of him. He was such an incredible, and sweet guy. And was very intelligent. He could brighten anyone’s day, and bring a laugh to anyone’s face. I will never forget him.

Aiden was my best friend in 7th grade, and eventually became my first boyfriend. Don't get me wrong, middle school relationships can be cheesy. Though, looking back on our friendship, I realized how much I loved him. We shared so many secrets, laughed and cried, wrote each other letters, comforted each other when we felt like we had no one else. I'll never forget the day he unexpectedly walked half an hour to my house and texted me that he missed me and was standing outside. But sometimes things don't always work out and we drifted apart after middle school. Even though we weren't the best of friends before he passed, the news broke my heart and I miss him very much. My heart goes out to the Alexander family. You raised an amazing son; he won't be forgotten. :)

My heart breaks for the family, for friends, for coworkers, and more. As soon as I met Aiden, there was an immediate friendship. He never failed to make me laugh or smile, and above all else, he made me comfortable. Comfortable that I could talk to him. Comfortable that I could be myself around him. He was the biggest light in the room, and wherever he was I was immediately drawn in. We’d joke around. I’d razz and tease him about silly things, and he’d joke back with me. He was a light to everyone. No one could find one bad thing to say about him. He was sweet, beyond nice, and a light that could never be covered. My wish is that I could’ve met him earlier. Known him longer. For this all seems surreal, he was taken from us all too early. With love and prayers, you have always been an angel on earth, Aiden. We love you.

Hey there, my name is Savannah. Aiden befriended me freshman year as I was still new to Smithsburg. We became good friends quickly and talked daily both in and out of school. We shared many inside jokes and laughs, he was absolutely hilarious. I considered him to be one of my dearest friends. He was always kind and compassionate, he had an outstanding sense of humor that we all enjoyed in the school. I’ll always carry him with me as he has made a positive impact on my life. I’d like to thank him for everything. P.S Aiden, I still have the video with you and Welches Gummies.

Aiden was such a good kid. He could always put a smile on my face. Even though we were never supper close, he definitely had an impact on me. It didn’t matter what the day was, he was always making some silly remark that would make me laugh. I remember when he hurt his foot in 8th grade and he would wheel around on his little cart. That alone was enough to make me smile. I’m beyond fortunate to have even known Aiden. I truly can’t think of anything bad to say about him, he was just such an amazing kid.

It was nice that I got to grow up with him, though sad to say goodbye. When we were young we would always mess around, whether it be soccer or jokes. We both had our differences but found it humorous which made hanging out with him fun. It feels so alien to say goodbye to him. I hope you see the light of day once more in a distance life. I hold my f key in respects to my dear friend....

I've known Aiden since Kindergarten. Even then he would always face the world with a smile on his face and make people laugh, even if he got in trouble for it. We remained fairly close from Pangborn, to Ruth Ann, to Eastern, all the way to Smithsburg. Even though he was always so close, we became closer this year. It really pained me to hear what happened, and I wish he were still here. I hope he's at peace, looking at us from above.

aiden and i were never really that close, however i always found myself talking to him at activity nights. anytime you found aiden in a room, you also found smiles on the faces of the people surrounding him. to say his laugh and smile was contagious is an understatement, he knew exactly how to brighten anyone’s day. you will be missed deeply aiden. sending prayers for your family ❤️

Aiden was always such a great person to be around. We were super close throughout middle school and he helped me a lot. He always made sure to check up on me and always found ways to make me laugh. I always enjoyed our late night conversations, drum line practice, and the holidays that I got to spend with him. I send nothing but love and prayers to the Alexander’s at a time like this.

Hi my name is Abigail. I was a senior last year and was in the band with Aiden. We weren't very close but I had a couple of friends that were really close to him. He always seemed to have a smile on face and he always knew how to make people laugh. I was not super close but when I heard of his passing, it broke my heart and I cried. Your family is in my prayers and my heart goes out to anyone who is hurting.

Hello, my name is Morgan. I was a super close friend of Aiden’s last year, for we were in the drumline together. We shared many memories from band camp, to playing video games with each other, to having lunch at my house with one of our others friends, and many more. He always had the biggest smile on his face when he walked into a room, and did everything with pride. We’d share tons of jokes, and laugh hysterically. To hear the news of his unexpected passing has put me into a heartbreaking shock. It just doesn’t feel real. I send my deepest condolences to Aiden’s family. He was an amazing person, and will always be. To Aiden, I miss and love you so much sweet boy. I’ll be seeing ya❤️

Aiden was in the drumline last year. I remember seeing him walk in to the band room everyday with a smile on his face. I remember helping him in class and showing him how to play cymbals and other percussion parts throughout marching band. I was never super close to him but it sure broke my heart to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
