Adam Richard Barnhart, 24, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the Meritus Medical Center.

Born Wednesday, August 2, 1995 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of  Dr. JoEllen Marie Barnhart and David Wayne Barnhart  both of Hagerstown, MD.

Adam graduated from North Hagerstown High School and the Job Development Center. He was active in Unified Sports during his high school career.He was in Self Directed Services through Community Pathways, where he volunteered throughout the community.Adam enjoyed Challenger Bowling and Baseball.Along side his dad he served as a "Special Assistant, Associate Producer" of high school sports videos for the Herald Mail.He was an avid Oriole fan and followed the University of Maryland Baseball Team, where he threw the opening pitch in a game against Michigan.Adam was a strong disabilities advocate and testified with his mother and brothers on disability legislation in Annapolis. He enjoyed art and making special gifts for family and friends. He was fond of watching movies and listening to music. His favorite movie was Angels in the Outfield; his favorite music video was The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and The News. Of all these, Adam's favorite thing was spending time with his family.

Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Michael Joseph Barnhart and Andrew Joel Barnhart both of Hagerstown, MD; cousin and caregiver, Abigail Leigh Barnhart of Hagerstown, MD; aunts & uncles, Sheri & Steven Miller of Tolland, CT, Brenda & David Slick of Hagerstown, MD, Sandy & Danny Crum of Walkersville, MD, Albert "Scip"  Barnhart, Jr. of Washington, DC, Charles & Margaret Barnhart of Gaithersburg, MD and Jeff & Linda Barnhart of Hagerstown, MD and numerous cousins. Adam held a special place and bond with companion to JoEllen Barnhart, Charles Sekula and companion to David Barnhart, Christina  McDermott.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Arthur & Dorothy Nield and paternal grandparents, Albert & June Barnhart.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 23, 2020, at 11:00 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook  and the Rev. Katherine Clark Johnson officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to MDA of Maryland  8501 Lasalle Road, Towson, MD 21286 or Lollipop Kids Foundation 15800 Crabbs Branch Way #300, Rockville, MD 20855.

I was the soccer coach for Andrew many years ago and remember Adam supporting his brother. I am sincere when I say that I have thought of the family very often.
