Ray Elwood Gladhill, Sr., 72, of  Boonsboro, MD, passed away, Sunday, October 20, 2019, at Doey's House.

Born Saturday, November 16, 1946 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Austin Elmer Gladhill Sr. and the late Mildred Frances (Smith) Gladhill.

Ray was employed with the Washington County Roads Department, retiring in 2009 after 30 1/2 years. He was a member of Garfield United Methodist Church and South Mountain Rod & Gun Club. Ray was an avid Baltimore Oriole fan, and in his early years was a member of Mt. Lena Little League, where he was an excellent pitcher. Later in years he went on to coach Little League Baseball in Smithsburg.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn D. (Netz) Gladhill; daughter, Amy Ellingson of Shippensburg, PA; son, Ray E. Gladhill, Jr. (Beth) of Hagerstown, MD; sister, Ruth I Moss (Jim) of Boonsboro, MD; two grandchildren, Joseph Ray Gladhill of Hagerstown, MD and  Raeann A. Ellingson of Shippensburg, PA; two step grandchildren, Laci A. Harrison and Carson T. Harrison both of Hagerstown, MD.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Austin E. Gladhill, Jr.

Services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 12:00 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Mary Ricketts officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in memory of Ray to Doey's House c/o Hospice of Washington County 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
