Paul R. Reid Sr., 91, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 5, 2019, with family members by his side. Now at home with the Lord, we are also assured that he is reunited eternally with Lorraine, his beloved wife of 63 years.

Born March 7, 1927 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late J. Richard Reid and Anna Rowland Reid. He was preceded in death by his brother, Rowland, and sisters, Esther and Kathryn.

A 1944 graduate of Hagerstown High School, he loved his community and built many lifelong relationships through work, civic organizations and his church. He was the founder and owner of Reid Insurance and served many years as an active member of Maugansville Ruritan Club and Antietam Exchange Club. He contributed many meaningful years of service on the board of Cedar Ridge Ministries, Fahrney Keedy Memorial Home, Shepherd Spring's Outdoor Ministry Center and Parent Child Center of Hagerstown.
Many of his friends will remember Paul for his commitment to serving God through his church, Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship. Beginning in 1957, he was elected to key leadership roles within the church including deacon and delegate to the national Church of the Brethren Annual Conference. He served numerous terms as a member and chairperson of the Church Board of Administration from 1979 through 2007. He is fondly remembered as Teacher of the Pathfinders Sunday School class for more than 30 years.

In addition to his faith, his core commitment was to his family. Whether his title was Dad or Pappap, we are grateful for his unconditional love. His loving family includes: son, Paul (Rick) Richard Reid, Jr. (wife Vickie); two daughters, Deborah Snyder (husband John), and Diane Hassler (husband Scott); grandchildren, Amanda Milner (husband Nathan), Reid Hoffman (wife Annie), Matthew Hassler, and Taylor Hassler; and great grandchildren, Judah Milner, Esther Milner and Lydia Hoffman.

Memorial services will be held Monday, March 11, 2019, at 11:00 am, at the Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike Hagerstown, MD, with Doug Diamond officiating.

Family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, Sunday, March 10, 2019, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Interment will be held privately with the family at Broadfording Church Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broadfording Church of the Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown, MD, 21740. The family will forever be grateful to the church for their care and compassion for our Dad and Pappap, particularly during the closing chapters of his life.

My sincere sympathy goes out to the children and family of your Dad Paul. What and amazing man. I knew your Mom also. I sewed for both of them. They both were a true example of Faith. What and honor it was to know them both.

Your dad was a true gentleman. A kind and caring person that I always enjoyed seeing walk through the door. He always had stories of local history to share and it was a real pleasure having him visit our office. I will keep your family in my prayers during this time of loss.
