James E. Russ Sr., 80, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Doey's House.
Born Wednesday, August 3, 1938 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late William McKinley Russ Sr. and the late Eva (Williams) Russ.
He was employed with the City of Hagerstown for over 30 years and the Washington County Library. He also did lawn care for several years. As a child he attended Greater Campher Temple and later was a member of Ebenzer AME Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Neal Russ of Hagerstown, MD, James Russ, Jr. of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Vanessa Russ of Hagerstown, MD, Sharlene Russ of Hagerstown, MD; brother, Rudolph Russ; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; fiancée, Norma Jones; step-son, Larry Dorsey; sister-in-laws, Hilda Russ, Lucille Russ, and Frankie Russ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William McKinley Russ, Jr., Nelson Russ, Allen Russ, Roy Russ, Franklin Russ, Kenneth Russ; sisters, Beatrice Young, Betty Davis, Juanita Watson, Margaret Barnett, Dorothea Frisby, Catherine Russ; and one grandson.
Services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019, at 12:00 pm, at the Greater Campher Temple Church, 125 Bethel Street Hagerstown, MD, with Elder Raymond Young officiating.
Family will receive friends at the church, Monday, May 6, 2019, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm.
Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doey's House,11370 Caring Pathway Lane, Hagerstown, MD, 21742.
