Obituary

Frances Virginia Bell, 77, Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Friday, August 16, 2019, at the Cadia Healthcare of Hagerstown. Born Sunday, June 14, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Hattie Adams and adopted daughter of the late Lewis Edward Bell and the late Frances E. Reed Bell. Frances was a lifetime member of Kings Apostle Holiness Church, the Mass Choir, the Usher Board, and the Missionary Board. Frances was well known for reading poetry at church and community events. She was also very involved with the Robert Johnson Community Center's Senior Coffee Chat, a Monday morning Book Club, Sunday Night Go-getters Bowling League, and the Wonderettes Singing Group. Frances retired in 2012 from the Washington County Hospital after 32 years of service. Prior to that, she was employed as a teacher's aide with the Head Start Program at Noland Village. She is survived by her son, Troy L. Bell and wife Yvonne F. of Hagerstown, MD, son, Darren Edward Bell and wife Terry L of Laurel, MD; daughter, Dawn R. Bell of Hagerstown, MD; daughter, Hope Michelle Bell of Hanover, MD; beloved nephew/son, John C. "Choochie" Bell of Hagerstown, MD; grandsons, Brian L. Bell and wife Lyndsay of Washington D.C., Brandon M. Bell and wife Kelly of Frederick, MD, Darren E. Bell, Jr. of Laurel, MD, Brent C. Bell of Hagerstown, MD, David A. Bell of Laurel, MD; granddaughter, Daisha F. Bell of Laurel, MD; two beloved cousins, Vernell "Peachie" Washington and Carolyn "Penny" Sterling; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and friends. In addition to her late birth mother and adoptive parents, Frances is preceded in death by her sister, Thelma V. Bell and beloved surrogate sister, Geraldine "Boopsy" Freeman. Services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2019, at 11:00 am, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Boulevard North, Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. George Nathan Bell officiating. Viewing will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday, August 21, 2019, from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
