Evelyn A. Keller, 85, of  Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Doey's House.

Born Tuesday, July 25, 1933 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Clarence G. Hurd and the late Vergie A. (Pallace) Hurd. She was preceded in death by her husband  Gene B. Keller.

Evelyn loved her home, her garden, people and country music. Her family was her life. Sissy's life can be summarized in the two greatest commandments, by her humble and willing way, and putting herself as least. She, along with her husband Gene, gave of herself to the care and assistance of anyone they saw in need of a  helping hand. In doing for so many, for so many years, they served Jesus with great love through their neighbors. This love and charity were the two torches that guided their open hearts throughout their long marriage, their children and extended family and all who knew them, to whom the torches are now passed.

She is survived by her  two daughters, Eugenia K. Keller of Hagerstown, MD and Connie J. Shives & husband Gary of Greencastle, PA; son, Charles G. Keller of Hagerstown, MD; grandchild, Jennifer Harshman of Hagerstown, MD; great grandchild, Andrew Eckenrode of Hagerstown, MD; sister, Helen Meyers of Hagerstown, MD and brother, William Hurd of Williamsport, MD.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, Junior Hurd,  Bucky Hurd, Jim Hurd, Robert Hurd,  Marvin Hurd and Ronald Hurd, sister, Christine Hurd Stone.

Services will be held Friday, January 11, 2019, at 2:30 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with her nephew Pastor Clarence Hurd officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, January 11, 2019 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

Private interment will be at the Smithsburg Cemetery, Smithsburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy in the loss of your dear loved one Evelyn Keller. I hope you find the below Bible verse comforting during this time of sorrow. Revelation 21:4 “And he will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Jeanie and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you in this very difficult time. I know how very much your mother meant to you but rest assured she is in a better place

A kind, gentle woman has gone to her heavenly home. Sissy’s generosity will be remembered with a smile from every life she touched. My mind’s eye will always see her with the sun shining on her as she sat in her sunroom chatting with Genie and me. She said she was a simple country woman and shared stories of growing up on a farm. May Sissy rest serenely in the presence of our savior.

Sis was such a special person! Her beautiful smile, her warm and caring heart, and her tender spirit will stay in my heart forever. I truly loved Sis. She could. always calm my troubled spirit, or make me laugh. - whichever the situation called for. Her humility prevented her from realizing how much she meant to everyone! I will miss her tremendously, but. am comforted by the fact that she is now in heaven, pain free , and probably taking care of her baby brother once again!!! Thank you Sis for everything you did for me. I will love you forever and ever! See you soon.
