Obituary

Eugene Edward Szumetz, 81, of Greencastle, PA, passed away, Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Paramount Senior Living.

Born Thursday, January 13, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Emery Louis Szumetz and the late Minerva Laura (Riling) Szumetz.

He was very active with the Mason Dixon Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 64 and volunteered with REACH.

He is survived by his grandson, Marshall Szumetz of Greencastle, PA; brother, Emery Dixon of VA; half brother, Lou Szumetz of Monroeville, PA; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Mae Szumetz; daughters, Julia Ann Szumetz and Traci Lyn Spickler.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 6:00 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Mike Bennett officiating.

Family will receive friends immediately following the service from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Eugene's great-grandson was diagnosed with Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva in 2017, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to IFOPA.org (Donate Here)

I was sorry to lean of Uncle Gene's passing. He was a good man and had a great sense of humor. My Brother and I always enjoyed speaking with him on the phone. I'm very thankful I had to opportunity to visit with him and Aunt Clara, Cousin Marshall and Tara many years ago.
